Top 20 Movies of all time

According to boxofficemojo.com the top 20 movies of all time - based on total dollars of ticket sales - adjusted for inflation are:

Rank Title
1 Gone with the Wind
2 Star Wars
3 The Sound of Music
4 E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
5 The Ten Commandments
6 Titanic
7 Jaws
8 Doctor Zhivago
9 The Exorcist
10 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
11 101 Dalmatians
12 The Empire Strikes Back
13 Ben-Hur
14 Return of the Jedi
15 The Sting
16 Raiders of the Lost Ark
17 Jurassic Park
18 The Graduate
19 Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
20 Fantasia

With the exception of Titanic, which I have never seen, (even though we own the DVD) I have seen every one of these movies in a theater. Most of them more than once. If you count home viewings on TV or video I have watched almost all of these films several different times. Excepting Titanic, I think I have only seen The Graduate twice - once at a theater in college and once on TV when I was home sick one week. With the exception of the Exorcist and the Graduate I have all of these movies on tape or DVD.

If you are wondering where Avatar is on this list - No. 21. I haven't seen it either. So it's probably my fault that it isn't in the top 20. I've already seen Dances with Wolves several times I don't want to watch it again with blue natives.

Great Movie Quote

Over at Curmudgeonly and Skeptical there is a thread discussing favorite comedy movies. One early comment pretty much describes my opinion of my movie theater experiences the last 10 years or so:

I got tired of spending the entire contents of my wallet on a small popcorn and two hours of Suck. - AWM

Indiana Jones Preview

I finally saw a preview of the new Indiana Jones Movie that premiers later this month.

I'm ready to go now....

I haven't been all too thrilled with most of what Hollywood turns out these days. In fact I refuse to go see about 99 percent of it. But I have always loved the Indiana Jones movies, all of them. Even Temple of Doom.

But what I'm looking forward to the most about the new movie? Karen Allen is back as Marion Ravenwood.

I loved her in Raiders and was very disappointed that she wasn't in the second and third ones. It was good to see her back with Indy again. Sure she is almost 57 years old now, but she is a good looking 57 from what I saw. Maybe it's the freckles, I've always liked girls with freckles. Good thing my dear wife has them, huh?

Paris Acting?

"I'm not the same person I was," she said. "I used to act dumb. It was an act. I am 26 years old, and that act is no longer cute."

Paris Hilton

She was acting?

Wow that girl was good. They should give her an Oscar, after all if Al Gore and Michael Moore can get one why can't Paris Hilton? I can see it now, Nicole Richie announces

"The Oscar for best excuse for getting a bathroom pass from jail goes to:"

Then she tears open the envelope, cuts her finger on the paper, turns sideways to the camera and disappears.
